Climbing is a potentially dangerous activity—practice only with proper experience and safety equipment.

Direzione Verticale is a non‑profit association that rejects profit as an end in itself and puts people, nature, and shared growth at the center. Recognized by the Department of Sport – Presidency of the Council of Ministers, by Sport e Salute, by CONI, and affiliated with CSEN (Centro Sportivo Educativo Nazionale), it operates with seriousness and transparency to promote the values of mountaineering and climbing.[web:1][web:6]
We are a group of enthusiasts and professionals united by a love for the mountains, rock, and wide open natural spaces. We believe that moral, ethical, mental, and physical evolution is an integral part of every climber’s journey. For us, nature and landscape are an endless and irreplaceable open‑air training ground, to be experienced and respected like our own home.[web:1][web:5]
We organize outings, courses, events, and social gatherings, both outdoor and indoor, to foster connections between people, groups, and local areas. Every activity is created with the goal of building community and making climbing more accessible, safe, and sustainable.[web:1]
To support the growth of climbing in Southern Italy — and especially in Campania — we have created a fund for sustainable bolting. All donations are fully allocated to the purchase and maintenance of equipment, which we provide freely and voluntarily to the community. In this way, every contribution, even a small one, becomes a concrete gesture of support for the sporting, social, and touristic development of the area.[web:1]
In addition, thanks to our Climbing Area interactive maps, we help enthusiasts and professionals discover and plan their adventures in a safe and informed way.[web:1]
Direzione Verticale is independent. It is not sponsored. It is free. We act for the common good, convinced that the mountains bring people together, elevate them, and teach them to look at the world from above — with respect and gratitude.[web:1]
Founder: Francesco Galasso
I live in the shadow of Vesuvius, between the sea and the mountains I carry in my heart: the Lattari Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage site and home of my vertical soul. Here I have opened and established routes up to 8c at the crag, and I have experienced climbing in its purest form, pushing myself up to 7b in solo style.[web:1]
For years I have passionately worked on enhancing countless itineraries — modern and classic routes, bouldering and deep‑water solo sectors, multi‑pitch alpine lines, and approach trails — to make this region a reference point for those who love rock and adventure.[web:1]
I am an author for guidebooks and specialist magazines, an adventure photographer and videomaker, as well as a qualified technician for rope access work at height (Legislative Decree 8 July 2003, no. 235 — registration Lan A 1154, Lan P 1156, Lan Aggb 2746). I work as an instructor and trainer with AIFES and AKA, and I train climbing instructors and guides, in addition to serving as Head of the AICS/CONI and CSEN Mountain League (registration 4715139). With Direzione Verticale, I carry forward a dream that has become a mission: to spread a culture of conscious adventure, where self‑knowledge meets the freedom of nature and the joy of discovery.[web:1][web:7][web:10]
The horizontal line leads us towards matter, the vertical one towards spirit. “In Direzione Ostinata e Contraria” was the photography exhibition that introduced us to the public, in the name of sharing the “wide open spaces” observed from our point of view — the vertical one.[web:1]
From there, Direzione Verticale came about naturally: a name that contains our essence and our way of living the mountains. At the center of the logo, the vertical line pushes upwards and represents the strength of the elements we come from: fire, water, and earth. It is the lava of Vesuvius, the symbol of our origin and of the energy that guides us every day.[web:1]

THE CONCEPT OF SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
Who truly acknowledges the quiet work of route developers and bolters? Behind every safe, well‑equipped climbing route there are women and men who, with passion, expertise, and respect for nature, devote their time, energy, and resources to making climbing accessible to everyone.[web:1]
They are the true developers of climbing areas: guardians of the values of sustainability, balance, and love for the land. Thanks to their commitment, we can climb safely throughout Italy — and especially in Campania and the South — enjoying well‑maintained crags in harmony with the environment that hosts them.[web:1]
Direzione Verticale is a non‑profit association created precisely to support this spirit.[web:1]
Every donation, every contribution collected through events and social activities, is reinvested in sustainable bolting and maintenance projects at the crags: we use quality materials, respect local ecosystems, and are committed to preserving the authentic beauty of the places where we love to climb.[web:1]
Choosing to support us means becoming an active part in protecting the land and in growing the climbing community. Even a small gesture can have a big impact. Click on the banner above or on the link below to make your donation — and help us keep the passion for climbing alive and free, in the name of sustainability and respect for nature.[web:1]
